Meet Bill Zahrt! Proudly claims himself as “One of a couple Bills in Run Muskegon”. Bill is from West Michigan, born in Hart along with three siblings and grew up in North Muskegon. Bill has an Industrial Engineering degree from U of M and an MBA from GVSU. He has worked for Howmet Aerospace his entire career (summer student through 41 years of service this year). Bill is in a marketing role, currently. He and his wife Polly have lived in Morristown, TN and Wichita Falls, TX in addition to him working in Whitehall. 1. How long have you been running? I have been running for 7 years, after starting later in life. 2. Do you race? If so, what is your most memorable race experience? Yes I race a few times each year. Races I have run with my niece and nephews are the best (like T-Minus 10 Miler from Cape Canaveral Space Force Base) 3. Ever run in a costume? If so, what? Not yet. 4. Only running shoes for me are... On Running Cloudmonsters are working for me, funky colors ok. 5. What is your worst running-related injury? Fortunately, nothing too serious. More embarrassment from a couple of falls. 6. Hot or cold weather runner? My mindset is “all weather” runner. 7. What is your motivation for running? Did not start running until after my dad had passed away. What started as a walking challenge at work turned into something strange. My running kit is now one of the first things I pack for vacation or work trips. I find running is good for mind and body and I love to explore new places on a run. 8. If I didn't run I.... Probably would be riding more miles on my motorcycle (was riding 10K miles a year back in TN) or spending more time with my car hobby). 9. I can't run without... My watch, except on Friday Night 5K night. 10. What's the farthest you have run at one time? River Bank 25K is the max so far. 11. What brought you to Run Muskegon and why have you stayed? I found Run Muskegon when I ran into Becki Mueller (Hopma) on a Wednesday night run, and she told me about the club. It was a fun conversation because I had known Becki and her family from Laketon Bethel Reformed Church when they were kids. I also recognized Kim Plummer (King) from their roller speed skating racing days. I stayed a member because I recognize and appreciate the unique chemistry/comradery of this group. Plus I have learned so much about running from the run club members.
