Anita BucknerMeet Anita Buckner! Anita grew up in Muskegon Heights and graduated from Muskegon Heights High School. She is married with children and grandchildren and is a Family Nurse Practitioner. 1. How long have you been running? For the majority of my life, I have had a passion for running. During middle school I broke the girl’s school record for the high jump. I jumped 6’ 1”. I also won first place during track and field day for the long jump where I jumped 16 ft. During running events I was the one to beat. But, unfortunately I was never able to participate in organized sports due to family circumstances. 2. Do you race? If so, what is your most memorable race experience? I started running back in 2010. During that year I ran three races and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Then out of nowhere, I lost my desire to run. I would run periodically but nothing was constant. Finally, I began running consistently again in 2019. That is the point I would say my running career took form. I ran my first ½ Marathon that year. My most memorable race experience was when I ran SGT. Preston in 2020. The after race party was when I realized that amazing bonds could be formed around running. 3. Ever run in a costume? If so, what? The first race I ran in a costume was this year 2022. It was an event organized by Run Muskegon ugly sweater run. I was dressed as an elf. 4. Only running shoes for me are… I enjoy running trails as well as road. My favorite trail running shoe is the Altra Timp 2. I don’t really have a favorite road shoe. 5. What is your worst running-related injury? My worst running injury was when I fell in the trail and dislocated both of my collar bones and 8 ribs. It was a long recovery. 6. Hot or cold weather runner? I don’t have a favorite time of year to run rain, snow, sleet or hail. I will run in it all. 7. What is your motivation for running? I would rather feel the satisfaction of accomplishment than the torment of regret. 8. If I didn't run I.... If I didn’t run I would be depressed. 9. I can't run without… I can’t run without my music. 10. What's the farthest you have run at one time? My farthest distance to date is 50k. Currently, I am training to run a 50 miler on September 24, 2022.
