How long have you been a member of Run Muskegon? I’ve been running with RM since 2014. I became a member in 2016, then again in 2021. Briefly explain your running experience. I started running as an adult. Growing up, I hated it! However, working as a school counselor in 2007, I got talked into coaching Girls on the Run and realized that I didn’t hate it as much. I kept with it, little by little, and started seeing improvements. After dealing with some health issues in 2011, I stopped running completely for a couple of years, before getting back into it in 2014. That’s the year I found Run Muskegon and never looked back. I am more on the “turtle” end of the spectrum than the rabbit end, but I am stubborn and don’t give up. It might take me longer, but I’ll get there! It has been through running, and Run Muskegon specifically, that I have met many of my closest friends. What experience, education, or interest do you have for serving on the Run Muskegon board? I was elected to the board in 2022 and have been the club secretary for the past 2 years. What special skill or knowledge do you have to bring to the board? I have a lot of knowledge of the workings of the club, I am a leader and a listener, and I have a genuine desire to see the club continue to grow. What other boards do you currently serve on or have served on in the past? Run Muskegon is my first board experience. What volunteer experience do you have? For years, I coached high school equestrian teams, I coached Girls on the Run, I’ve volunteered at races and various other events, as well as at shelters with my husband and children. What would be your goals as a board member? I want to continue to see the club grow and continue to spread our name across west and mid Michigan. I want to see us continue to host and grow our races, in order to give more back to the community. I want to see our gift-giving efforts continue and increase to do the most good in the most ways possible, in line with our mission statement.
