Kerra is an accountant at Webb Chemical. She has more coffee cups than a coffee cup factory. She loves country music, hallmark movies, hockey, her family, and her Austrian Shepard, Oberon. Kerra lives in Muskegon with her husband Derek.  Run Muskegon congratulates Kerra on her one year of running anniversary.

(Answers provided by Nicole Bush (Sister-in-law) & Kerra’s Husband, Derek Bush)

1. How long have you been running?
Kerra started running a little over a year ago with the goal of running the Run Muskegon Turkey Trot

2. Do you race? If so, what is your most memorable race experience? Yes! 3.5 miles into the North Country Trail Half Marathon, she took a tumble that ended with her hitting her head, shoulder, and knees. It was like a slow-motion cartoon fall with her arms windmilling around. The whole side of her body was covered in dirt.

3. Ever run in a costume? If so, what?
80’s themed 5k run with a punk rock tutu

4. Only running shoes for me are…
Mizunos

5. What is your worst running-related injury?
See number 2

6. Hot or cold weather runner?
 Cold

7. What is your motivation for running?

In 2017, Kerra and her doctors were trying to figure out why she was having some unusual symptoms. Issues like having a hard time closing her hands all the way, her head feeling heavy, and her tongue getting locked up were common occurrences. After a number of tests Kerra was diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy Type One. As time with her diagnosis progressed, additional testing found that her lungs were in good shape, but the muscles controlling them were not functioning properly. Kerra also had enough muscle loss in her legs to consider making her wear a brace. To help hold off the symptoms and strengthen her body, Kerra got the clear to run last year. She has been kicking butt since then!

8. If I didn't run I....
Would have never experienced so many cool new things!

9. I can't run without…
Music

10. What's the farthest you have run at one time?
Half marathon

11. What brought you to Run Muskegon and why have you stayed?
Started for the Turkey Trot Training Plan & stayed for the people.

Scott was born and raised in Muskegon.  He attended Michigan Technological University, graduating with a degree in Computer Science.  After a short break from school, he got a part time job at Meijer.  It turned into a 22-year career.  He currently works as a meat cutter at the North Muskegon location.

1. How long have you been running?
I’ve been running since 2019 as a way to improve my fitness.

 2. Do you race? If so, what is your most memorable race experience?
I have been known to participate in the occasional race.  My most memorable experience is running the Dopey Challenge at Disney World in 2023.  It involved running 4 races in 4 days.  I went there with a group of friends and had the best time!

 3. Ever run in a costume? If so, what?
I do run in costume in some situations: Halloween, Star Wars Day, Ragnar, Disney, Tuesdays, etc.

 4. Only running shoes for me are...
Anything pink

 5. What is your worst running-related injury?
I've never had an actual diagnosis for an injury, but they all have involved not stretching.  Someday I’ll learn.

6. Hot or cold weather runner?
Hot weather for training.  Cold weather for racing.

7. What is your motivation for running?
Kudos!  I like medals too, even if they’re just for participation.  And the friendships are nice too.

8. If I didn't run I....
I’d be 50 pounds heavier and playing video games on my couch all day.  But think about all the money I’d save on shoes.

9. I can't run without...
My water bottle

10. What's the farthest you have run at one time?
I participated in a 50-mile race last April

11. What brought you to Run Muskegon and why have you stayed?
I came to run Muskegon to meet new people, and I stayed because of them
